Our Commitment

M.O. Counselling Services provides compassionate psychotherapy and counseling, drawing on over 15 years of experience as a Mental Health Therapist and Psychiatric Nurse. We work with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, personality disorders and complex trauma, and offer specialized support for individuals with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Our commitment is to help clients navigate their mental health challenges, fostering resilience and guiding them toward recovery.

Education and Background

Shaun Buote is a BIPOC mental health therapist with a Master’s degree in Psychology and over 15 years of combined experience in psychiatric nursing and counselling therapy. He has spent the past 10 years as a mental health therapist and 5 of those specializing in Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), Personality Disorders and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) within the public health care system. His work spans acute mental health issues, and he is trained in a wide range of evidence-based modalities, including CBT, DBT, EMDR, Solution-Focused Therapy, ERP, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, group therapy and NLP. While he specializes in the treatment of  FND and OCD, he also has over 6000 client hours in general practice helping clients navigate depression, anxiety, personality disorders, grief, situational stress, and complex trauma.

The goal is to provide compassionate, effective support tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Shaun uses an eclectic, client-focused therapy that is an integrative approach where he draws from a variety of therapeutic techniques and models to tailor treatment specifically to your individual needs. His approach emphasizes flexibility, adapting methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and humanistic approaches based on your preferences, personality, and the issues you are facing. He creates a personalized and effective treatment plan, by fostering a collaborative relationship with yourself, where the key to success is working together to find what resonates best with you, so you can better understand and address what’s going on in your life. It’s all about making the therapy process fit you, not the other way around.
